A rich purple ink infused with shimmering silver flecks, Amethyste de l'Oural is no less captivating than its namesake gemstone. Its name means "Amethyst of the Ural Mountains". During the 16th and 17 centuries, Amethysts from Russia, Brazil, and Sri Lanka were eagerly sought for their calming, meditative, and dream-like qualities.
This ink is part of J. Herbin's 1798 collection of inks. Like the 1670 collection, it features richly colored inks infused with sparkling metallic particles. It also features an improved bottle design. The bottle opening is wider to accommodate larger-diameter fountain pens, the cap is coated with a thicker layer of wax, and the Jacques Herbin logo is engraved on the bottom of the bottle. The 1798 collection is named in honor of the year that the Herbin company's shop relocated to Rue des Fosses-Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois in Paris.
J. Herbin made many journeys to India and brought special wax formulas back to Paris, leading to his shop's success as a reputable sealing wax manufacturer that served Louis XIV and gained popularity throughout France. The wax seals on the cap and front of the bottle remind us of this rich history.
